The drive towards a greener and more sustainable future is encouraging the aviation industry to move increasing electrification of its fleet. development electric propulsion technologies also requires new approaches assess their viability in novel configurations. A methodology proposed which consists four sub-procedures; powertrain modelling, performance analysis, aerodynamic sizing. This approach initially considers modelling using AIAA symbol representations, review available literature establishes state-of-the-art component values efficiency, specific power, energy, fuel consumption. sizing procedure includes mission analysis determine energy power requirements, it relies on mass regression model based full-electric, hybrid, VTOL fixed-wing aircraft found literature. has been applied five case studies are representative wide range missions Their predicted masses from have validated against actual masses. total shows generally good agreement with values, addition, accurate for active predicted. sensitivity suggests that work may include aerodynamics if were be selecting concepts.
